Meet Scootie Jr 🖤🐾
Scootie Jr is a beautiful 4-year-old German Shepherd/Australian Shepherd mix who is having a hard time understanding how she ended up in a shelter.
At 73 pounds, Scootie is a substantial girl, but everything noted about her personality points to a sweet, soft and gentle dog. Right now she’s scared and understandably overwhelmed by her surroundings. During her assessment, staff noted that she simply seemed to want out of the shelter environment.
But even through that fear, little pieces of her personality are already beginning to appear.
Once she had some time outside, Scootie started becoming playful with toys and engaging with the people around her. It’s a small glimpse of the dog underneath all that uncertainty - a girl who wants to relax, play and feel normal again.
Scootie has also done well meeting another dog. Her dog-to-dog assessment described her as gentle and dainty, with a soft approach to other dogs.
With both German Shepherd and Australian Shepherd in her mix, Scootie comes from two highly intelligent, loyal and people-oriented breeds. Both are known for forming incredibly strong bonds with their families and thriving when they have companionship, routine, mental stimulation and a sense of purpose.
They’re also sensitive, observant dogs who tend to notice everything happening around them. For a girl like Scootie, the constant noise and activity of shelter life can be especially overwhelming.
And that may be exactly what we’re seeing right now.
She isn’t showing us a dog who doesn’t want connection. She’s showing us a dog who is scared and doesn’t understand what is happening to her. Give her somewhere quiet to decompress, let her learn the routine and allow her to build trust without pressure, and there may be a completely different Scootie waiting underneath.
She’s okay on leash, does well in her kennel and has already started showing interest in playing with toys once she has a chance to relax.
Scootie Jr is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.
At only 4 years old, she has so much life ahead of her. What she needs now is someone willing to give her the one thing a shelter can’t provide - the security of a home where she can finally exhale.
If you understand Shepherds and have a soft spot for the dogs who just need a little time to show you who they really are, Scootie Jr may be waiting for you. 🖤🐾
