Buffalo is a beautiful 2-year-old Coonhound, Redbone and Vizsla mix weighing 62.6 pounds, and beneath that handsome face is one of the goofiest, sweetest, most loving dogs you could hope to meet.

Buffalo can be a little unsure when experiencing something new, but give him a moment to realize he’s safe and his entire personality begins to change. His foster family has watched him go from being suspicious of something as harmless as a broom to realizing that maybe the world isn’t quite as scary as he thought. Once that happens, the silly, affectionate boy underneath comes pouring out.

He has done wonderfully living with both dogs and cats. With his foster dog brother, Buffalo took about a day to decide he was ready to play - and then there was no looking back. The two quickly became the silliest pair, running around the backyard, playing together, and happily rolling around in the dirt. With the resident cat, Buffalo was curious and interested but respectful, seeming much more interested in becoming friends than causing any trouble.

Buffalo absolutely adores children. He actually seemed to warm up to the kids in his foster home even faster than the adults. He has lived with teenagers and a 9-year-old and has been gentle, loving, and incredibly happy to spend time with them.

He’s also completely housetrained. Buffalo didn’t have a single accident in his foster home and will actually go to the door to let his family know when he needs outside. He loves getting out for walks, exploring the world with his people, and hopping in the car for a ride.

One of the most beautiful things about Buffalo has been watching what happens when he’s given the chance to live in a home. He experienced anxiety in the shelter environment, but once he entered foster care, that anxiety began melting away remarkably quickly. As he realized he was safe, he became more relaxed, playful, affectionate, and confident.

Buffalo is a medium-energy dog who would love a family that will include him in everyday life. He enjoys his walks and playtime but, more than anything, he wants the security of knowing he belongs somewhere.

At just 2 years old, Buffalo has so much life ahead of him. He’s sweet, silly, affectionate, playful, wonderful with other animals, fantastic with children, housetrained, and always ready for the next car ride or backyard adventure.

Buffalo doesn’t need someone to change who he is. He just needs someone willing to give him a little time to realize he’s finally safe. Once he does, you get the privilege of meeting the hilarious, loving dog who has been waiting underneath.

And we have a feeling he’s going to steal someone’s whole heart. ❤️🐾
