March is Tick Awareness Month

Our team would like to remind you that ticks are active as soon as the temperature reaches 0 degrees or warmer.

A recently published Canadian study showed that blacklegged ticks infected with the Lyme disease causing bacteria are more likely to survive winter temperatures and are the first ones to “wake up” on warmer days during cooler months.

In areas where tick-borne diseases are found there may be:

MORE RISK of individual pet exposure to disease, especially during fluctuating winter temperatures and throughout the spring.

MORE RISK of infected ticks surviving in areas where uninfected ticks may not.

How to protect your pet ?

1) Administer veterinary approved tick control for your pet, that includes cats that go outdoors

I sweat through my paws, and when it's this hot, I can't cool off because my paws are burning. Skipping a walk won’t hurt me—let me chill inside and take me out once the sun goes down."

If you spot someone walking their dog on hot pavement, kindly suggest they try it barefoot for the rest of the way. They might just understand how much it hurts.
